Is it ok to buy contact lenses online with different specifications?
December 10th, 2009 | by admin |My current contact lens specs are:
Base Curve: 8.7
Diameter: 14.3
Sphere: – 1.25
And can buy some online with
Base Curve: 8.6
Diameter: 13.8
Sphere: – 1.25
Should they be ok or are the differences too much?
Thanks
Well, unfortunately it is illegal to change any of those things without a prescription from your doctor. Not knowing how your eye would react to the changes is the dangerous part. I really would not mess with it, to tell you the truth. My eyes are too precious to me.

No it is not alright.
Your optician has provided you with a prescription for a specific contact lens. It is illegal for anyone to provide you with any other contact lens.
Is it really cheaper to buy online?
If you buy from your optician they usually give you free eye examinations and free contact lens checks, this can save you £70 a year. They will also provide you with free contact lens solution and free replacements if you lose or damage your lenses. They will post them to you and give you really good discounts of glasses.
I know that when you cost everything in there is really very little difference and I’d much rather go to an opticians as if you have any questions or problems they are there for you. For example if you had an infection that needed checking they’d do it free of charge, if you don’t buy lenses from them you are likely to be charged about £35 each appointment.
Just something to think about!
