I use disposable contact lenses, but I only wear them once in awhile. How long can I keep them in the fluid?

I maybe wear them once a month, and just store them the rest of the time. I need to wear them today because my dog shredded my glasses after I left them on the coffee table.

If you don’t wear your contacts very often you should still try to change the solution every few days. The contact case itself is not sterile (like the sealed ones you get when you buy them) so they still contain germs and other nasty stuff. Changing the solution every few days will help keep the bacteria from multiplying and make sure that it doesn’t dehydrate at all. Now, that being said, I have worn contacts that have been sitting in solution for couple months that I hadn’t changed and I was okay. Just clean and rinse them very very well and try to keep changing the solution every few days from now on if you don’t wear them. Or everyday of course if you do wear them.

i’ve been wearing 2 week disposable contact lenses for more than a month now and haven’t had any real problem. Just wondering if there is predisposition to bacterial deposition if I do so despite meticulous regular cleaning before and after each use.

bacteria or mold can get under the lens of the contact and cause a eye infection.

How do you know when your disposable contact lenses have expired????

I tend to foget the date so i usually ended up throwing it away earlier than im supposed to and it’s such a waste.

Most daily wear contacts are intended to be changed every month. I usually know that its time to change them when they start feeling dry or itchy. Really, they will last about 2-3 months, so you shouldn’t worry about leaving them in too long.

Does anyone get daily disposable contact lenses from Specsavers?

I get them from here through lensmail . I’ve just opened them and they are using a different type, as the packaging has changed from blue to black and so have the actual lens ‘pods’. They are now called ‘ opsys’

The shop is shut now and I’m getting nothing from the net so can anyone tell me are they just re-branded or are they something new?

OR have they sent me someone elses LOL.

hi, ciba dailies have changed their name to opsys. But its still the exact same lens inside. I havnt got a clue why they’ve done it – except to get everyone worried and confused! But anyway its fine to use them they are the exact same lens!

They have daily disposables, and two-week disposables, and all kinds of different disposables…. If you’re worried enough that you have to ask about it, then I think you should follow the directions on the box, honey.
Otherwise, you can be like the rest of us, who wear them till they fall apart, or don’t stay in, or get all foggy (protein!), and risk an infection

I wear contacts once or twice a week. I recently purchased a box of 1 day acuvue lenses. After wearing a pair for five hours, I take them off and, since they don’t look cracked or torn I wonder why I can’t just store them in a sterile solution and wear them again a couple of days later. What will happen if I do that?

No, never re-use the lenses. It is meant for one time use thats y it is called dailies lenses

No, there is no difference in the exam. If you think that you might like daily disposables better, just go back and talk to your eye doctor about them. You might even be able to call him about it. I think most eye doctors do offer the weekly or bi-weekly disposables normally. There may be a reason why your eye doctor wanted you to have the weekly disposables, or it may be that the brand he/she prescribed doesn’t offer a daily disposable. Just call him/her or stop by, and see what you can find out.

Using 3-month disposable contact lenses with 30-day contact lense solution?

Is it safe to use 3-month disposable contacts with contact solution that says only to use with 1-month disposable contacts? I would like an answer from an optometrist or any other doctors that work with the eye. I don’t want to get an infection in my eyes or go blind or anything.
I recently read the box and it says not to store the contacts for more than 30 days without rinsing and resoaking them in the solution. The contact solution is Equate Multi-Purpose Solution.

That’s right, if you are storing the same lenses without wearing them, then you should change the solution after 30 days.

That doesn’t mean it can only be used for monthly contacts.

It’s fine to use with the contacts you have…that’s what it is meant for. Any disposable lenses.

I sometimes wake up with what feels like a very dry eye or i can’t see clearly for a few seconds, i put on some antibiotics.
I know i have bacteria in my eyes because since it’s right on my eye i can see it slide around like what you see in a microscope.

Disposable contacts are only made to last as long as you are told to use them. Therefore, if you use them any longer than instructed, you are at a higher risk of getting eye infections and eye ulcers. If you do not wear them everyday, you can extend their wear time a little depending on how often you do wear them. If you wear your contacts on a daily basis (even if you keep them clean), you should dispose of them properly. You eyes are very important so take care of them. Think of it like this. You change your underwear everyday and you don’t want to over wear them. SAME AS CONTACTS.
