What will happen if I reuse daily disposable contact lenses?

December 2nd, 2009 | by admin |

I have recently switched from two week disposables to daily disposables. Will anything catastrophic happen if I use my new lenses for more than a day, treating them like my old ones (rinse in solution, store, etc.)? Thanks for you help!

Your eyes will rot out! No Seriously they are not designed to last more than one day. I wouldn’t sleep in them & I certainly wouldn’t wear them more than 2 days. They won’t hold up to being stored in solution & with the cost of solutions any more the contacts are cheaper than an eye infection & the glasses you will have to wear until your eyes clear up. DON"T DO IT!!! I’m with princeidoc & funkykomadina on this one!!!

The world will come to the end!! Well, the dailies are very flimsy for comfort and may not hold up for too long. It all depends on your eyes, but I would think it wouldnt hurt. I would definitely not sleep in them. But I am not a doctor!

some one-day contacts are hydrophillic contacts and are not intended on being used for more than 8 hours of continuos wear time. as a matter of fact, i had a patient come in to my office and he was wearing a focus daily contact for 3 days and it bonded to his cornea. when i removed it, it actually tore the cornea clean off. it will grow back, but takes 2-3 weeks to recover. so, in the long run, i’m telling you to not wear daily contacts for longer than recommended.

well for a start the cost of cleaning solutions will quickly over take the extra cost of paying for daily disposable lenses. so saving money has gone out of the window.. Also daily lenses are thinner and break more easily than other lenses……….
you risk chronic eye infections that will possibly make lense cleaning a major health problem……. but only you can decide how precious you sight is too you……
the cheaper option is stick to 14 day or monthly lenses or look after daily lenses properly
