I recently started to wear contact lenses and when I bought them from the doctor they were pretty expensive. When I spoke to a friend of mine, he said that 1-800-contacts was a better alternative for finding good contacts without it costing much. I want to know if anyone has bought their contacts from there and are they safe.

I hate to burst you’re bubble, but 1-800-middle man does the exact same thing any eye doctor does and all the eye doctors I know (including me) set their prices purposefully at or below their levels. Be careful, trust your doctor, not a company that has absolutely NO!!! liability.

I maybe wear them once a month, and just store them the rest of the time. I need to wear them today because my dog shredded my glasses after I left them on the coffee table.

If you don’t wear your contacts very often you should still try to change the solution every few days. The contact case itself is not sterile (like the sealed ones you get when you buy them) so they still contain germs and other nasty stuff. Changing the solution every few days will help keep the bacteria from multiplying and make sure that it doesn’t dehydrate at all. Now, that being said, I have worn contacts that have been sitting in solution for couple months that I hadn’t changed and I was okay. Just clean and rinse them very very well and try to keep changing the solution every few days from now on if you don’t wear them. Or everyday of course if you do wear them.

i’ve been wearing 2 week disposable contact lenses for more than a month now and haven’t had any real problem. Just wondering if there is predisposition to bacterial deposition if I do so despite meticulous regular cleaning before and after each use.

I have a pale green eye colour and have always envied those with dark brown eyes. I was wondering about possibly using cosmetic lenses to change the colour of my eyes – just to see what I would look like.

The question is, are they safe? I don’t want to ruin my eyes as my eyesight is perfectly fine. But I would like to see what my eyes would look like blue or brown.

I need to order some disposable contact lenses in a hurry as I’ve just realised I’ve run out. I don’t have a current contact lense prescription (every website I’ve checked states that you must have a test that is less than a year old). Can anyone recommend a reliable site that ships to the UK and one where you don’t need to put in your optician’s details?

You can’t, it’s the law, they all have to request a prescription. You will have to get one done – if you ring around the opticians you should be able to get one sorted soon.

If you wear hard contact lenses, you need to keep them out of your eyes at least four full weeks before having your evaluation. For those that have toric soft lenses or RGP contacts, at least three weeks is advisable. If you wear soft contact lenses, you still need to remove them and keep them out for at least two weeks prior to being screened. If you don’t do this, your doctor can not get an accurate measurement and therefore can’t do as successful of a procedure on you.

When you meet with your Los Angeles lasik professional, they will instruct you on the specifics for your case. Take a few minutes and ask about contact lens usage.
