What happens to contact lenses when they "expire"?

January 16th, 2010

I’ve seen cosmetic contact lenses online that say they last for 1 year, but what happens to them after a year? Do they shrivel up or something? And is there any way to make them last longer?

I don’t think they can’t be guaranteed sterile after a year.

Question about Cosmetic Contact lenses, please help?

December 23rd, 2009

i just bought new cosmetic contacts (non prescription) it took me about an hr to put them on but i finally did it. my left eye is fine but my right one still stings…also, do cosmetic contacts have a right and wrong side cuz they look the same both ways flipped. And do I need to buy contact solution to sit them in when I take them out, or will water work fine?

You may have irritated your eye it shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes to put them in if u know what ur doing. The contacts do have side if you look at it if its on the correct side the contact should have a bowl shape if its inside out the side look like they’re sticking out a bit. and yes your gonna need solution for the contacts water will make your eye sting when u put them in and also you need to let the soak in the solution it removes the germs from the lenses. you can make saline solution with water and salt (i dont know the exact mixture)but it real cheap in the store.,

December 23rd, 2009

I would ask the opthalmologist, also if you would be a good candidate for lasik surgery, good luck

How to buy toric contact lenses for only one eye?

December 23rd, 2009

I’m a first time contact lens wearer. I have slight astigmatism in my left eye and so I was told by my doctor to wear toric lenses. My right eye can wear just regular lenses. The question I have is, how can I buy these lenses so that I have toric lenses for my left eye and regular lenses for my right eye?
Err, nevermind. I can just choose when ordering online to buy zero (0) boxes for the right eye.

You take the prescription to your friendly neighborhood optometrist and let him do his magic. I bet he’s never in his whole career run into such a situation nor in his extensive training ever learned how to make one lens one way and the other lens the other way.

Can i take a short sleep (2-3 hours) when wearing my monthly disposable contact lenses?

December 20th, 2009

I know you are supposed to take them out each evening to clean/ disinefect them, but I sometimes take a nap in the afternnon.Do I need to remove my lenses before I nap?

It depends what you do when you wake up.

When you do your contacts will feel rather dry. Your first reaction would be to blink a bunch really quickly. Don’t do that, though it sometimes works, it often pushes the contacts out of your eyes… what you just have to do is blink a few times SLOWLY to get your contacts rehydrated without pushing them out of your eyes…

Contact Lenses Have Come a Long Way to Give you Simple, Hassle Free Sight Without Wearing Glasses

December 18th, 2009

Bright eyes and bright visions create a colorful life. In the same way, eyes are the doorway to the pleasures that spring has in its fragrant flowers, blooming scenery and stunning colors. For those of us who have slightly impaired vision, contact lenses have really made life a lot easier. Modern day technology has also come with the wonderful innovation of colored contact lenses and with the advent of internet and global connection you are sure to get discount contact lenses at prices to suit every budget!

Contact Lenses.

While we try to trace back the history of contact lenses, the credit goes to Leonardo da Vinci ? the man behind the inspiration. It was in the year 1508, when he sketched several ideas about lenses which, in later days paved the way for its development. Further progress was made when the United States of America began their commercial distribution in the year 1791. From then on they have made the life of many people brighter and more colorful than ever. The commitment extends further!

Materials Used In Their Making:

Contact lenses are normally made with either plastic or synthetic materials, which assures a safer insertion, particularly into the cornea of the eye. They are in fact a sure benefit to those people who have to wear those unattractive thick glasses!

Types:

Generally, Contact lenses are described in two ways. They are described by their density or hardness and with their length of time they are to be worn.

When describing by density they are classified as:

Soft contact lenses: these are made with soft plastic and 25% to 79% water. They are also known as disposable lenses. In fact, Soft lenses are the easiest to wear and the easiest to get used to.

Rigid Gas Permeable lenses: These contact lenses on the other hand are made with silicone. The benefit of these lenses is that, they allow more oxygen to transmit to the eye thereby giving your eye more protection. In reality, these lenses are the most preferred, since they are comfortable enough to wear and to clean. Additionally, they come with an ultraviolet production and give you protection against ultraviolet sun rays.

Similarly, the descriptions of the length of time that they are to be worn are:

Daily wear and disposable

Extended wear contact lenses

Weekly disposable

Monthly disposable and etc.

Benefits Of Soft Lenses:

Contact lenses really are a gift of technology to the whole of mankind. It has opened up a new world to the people who have been suffering from eye defects such as short sightedness and long sightedness. Contact lenses have allowed them to attain better sight and to experience a new life. Moreover, getting away from the thought that they are to be used only for short sight and long sight defects helps in realizing that they are also used widely to improve the facial appearance. Their additional benefits include the use of:

Bifocal lenses for the treatment of short sightedness and long sightedness

Toric lenses to correct the problem of astigmatism.

Contact lenses to change the shape of the cornea by a kind of treatment called orthokeratology.

They are economically more dependable

Moreover, with colored contact lenses coming into effect, they find their use in modeling and in the film arena. Using these lenses models and actors can change their retina or cornea color and can improve their look. Being available in many colors and types these contact lenses provide a great choice of selection in the market thereby fulfilling the expectations of the buyer.

I have disposable contact lenses, can i keep them to reuse?

December 15th, 2009

Like, i have monthly soft contact lenses, and I was wondering if I could instead of throing the away, jjust keep them incase I lose them or somthing, even though I will get 6 pair, you never know how often i’ll lose the,..whateveer you get the point. I read somwhere on yahoo! answers someone said, "Never ever, if you have disposable contact lenses reuse them, throw htem away!!" Is this true?? why not?? k thanks!

You should not reuse them, you should throw them away. disposable contact lenses are not made to stand up to being reused, and reusing them can lead to infections and fungal infections in the eye that can have serious side effects including blindness and damaged vision. I would recommend that you dispose of them exactly according to the package instructions.
